Drain Flies & Fruit Flies (Gnats):
They are so small that window screens are ineffective in keeping them out.
They need something to eat and water. They love fruit left out on the counter.
They lay their eggs in the drains because there is always some old scum & water in there.
Ways to fight back:
- Pour some really hot water down each drain followed by some bleach. Then, if practicable, cover the drain.
- Set out a small shallow dish with some Apple Cider Vinegar and add a drop of dish soap. Place this near each drain. This will attract then drown them.
- “Insect bombs” will help to get rid of those stubborn ones but takes a few treatments and can be expensive. Cannot be used when unit is occupied.
- ZEVO active trap uses UV & Blue Light to attract & trap Gnats & Flies onto an adhesive backed replaceable insert. Very effective. Available at WalMart
The best is prevention – catch & treat when you first see them. It does take a while to get rid of them once they have multiplied.
